Fitness Testing Evenings
Whilst we don't have an exact date for a return to squad training, we do hope teams will be able to start meaningful sessions in the near future.
In preparation, players should be working to improve their conditioning for the season ahead. We should aim to be ' fit for eighty', which can be judged by a simple question: can you perform in the eightieth minute as you did in the first? At our level of rugby, if you can maintain your skills and decision making under fatigue, it will go a long way to deciding the outcome of matches.
To aid preparations we will be holding fitness testing evenings on Thursday 9th and Tuesday 14th July, for all Academy (Under 16-18's), Senior Ladies and Senior Men. All players will then be given a conditioning plan to follow until squad sessions commence.
The testing sessions will work as follows:
- Players will be tested in groups of five, in twenty minute slots.
- All players MUST book a 20 minute slot using this booking system. If you do not book, you will not be allowed into the session, whether there is space or not.
- When booking online you will be asked to complete a Covid-19 screening questionnaire. If you cannot confirm the statements, please do not book.
- Players will be verbally screened for symptoms on arrival and will not be allowed to train should they show any symptoms.
- All club facilities will be out of bounds. Players should bring their own water bottles.
- When a player's slot is over, they will be expected to leave the pitches immediately and not wait to observe following sessions.
- All players must observe government guidance, including social distancing, at all times throughout the session.
As well as an opportunity to see our teammates and get some baseline measures, the fitness testing will serve as a trial run for ensuring coaches and players can observe guidelines and create a safe and effective training environment, We all want rugby to return as soon as possible, and as such we have a responsibility to execute these sessions to the best of our ability.
I look forward to catching up with you all next week.
Thanks
Joe Alford
Director of Rugby
