Hello all,

I hope you are all keeping well. Next Wednesday, I along with 19 friends are going to be running from Devizes in Wiltshire to Westminster and back in 4 days. Why would we be doing this?? Well, in November 2019 my younger brother passed away from a rare blood condition called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, HLH is a rare disease that usually occurs in infants and young children and is even more rare in adults.

Tony went from being in good health to sadly succumbing to this illness within just 7 short days leaving behind my young niece and nephew. This completely shocked everyone that knew Tony who was a great character and his popularity was shown by over 600 people that joined us in attending his funeral and drinks afterwards.

We are doing this run not only in memory of Tony, but also to raise money for the charity Histiocytosis UK (https://www.histiouk.org/)  they are dedicated to promoting and funding scientific research into uncovering not only the causes of all histiocytic diseases, but also helping to raise awareness to ensure early diagnosis of the disease allowing effective treatments to be employed and hopefully to those suffering from this disease the chance of a cure. Histio UK also aims to support patients and their families as well as raise public and professional awareness of histiocytic disorders. Its team of Trustees include the UK’s leading paediatric LCH and HLH specialists.

As the total distance to be covered is a little over 250 miles, we are going to be running the course in a relay made up of 4 teams of 4 to 5 runners in each. We will be following the path of the Kennet and Avon canal to Reading where we will then join the Thames and run along the banks of this into Central London before turning round to run back along the same route to where we started from. We will be carrying a baton (after all this is a big version of a relay) that will travel the full distance and all runners will be completing over 65 miles each within the 4 day event.

As this is in memory of Tony, who was not only my little brother but also one of my best mates, I have decided to challenge myself by attempting to run the equivalent of a marathon each day, meaning that I am going to be running in excess of 100 miles or 40% of the total distance. All the donations will go directly to the charity because we have been lucky enough to have numerous businesses (Cheevers Poole included) sponsor us to help cover the cost of the event on top of each runner paying £200 themselves towards the costs,

If you would like to help me and the rest of the team to make this an event to remember then any money that you can offer would be greatly appreciated and please just click on this link to show your support https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/boonersboys

Thanks for your time and I’ll let you know how the challenge goes

Kind regards
