A day to forget as Devizes capitulated in this Wiltshire derby against local rivals Trowbridge. Missing a few key players in the form of Nathan Strong, John Bramwell, Jorge Wadman, Toby Randall and skipper Josh Gould, Devizes, on paper, still fielded what looked like a fairly strong side. From the off things did not look good as Trowbridge found a gap in the midfield, to touch down within the first two minutes. The first half saw the home side score a number of tries at regular intervals to go in at the break 40-0 up. Very few positives for Devizes.
The second half saw Devizes hold out Trowbridge for a few more minutes before they added another try and then a spell of around 20 minutes of no scores as both sides competed in the middle of the pitch. The game had to be switched pitches as replacement flanker Luke Moore suffered whiplash and subsequently an ambulance was called. Luke is thankfully OK, just very sore.
On the alternative pitch, Devizes immediately allowed Trowbridge to score several more scores to further compound the misery. A Lewis Paget try the only consolation scored with just under ten minutes to go, before Craig Bryant was unluckily sent to the sin bin in the final minutes.
Trowbridge played very well and looked like a level six outfit on Saturday, however the performance of the Devizes boys was nowhere near the level of other performances this season. A thoroughly disappointing day all round and nothing to smile about. The Devizes lads must regroup as they head to Marlborough on Saturday in the rearranged fixture up on the Common.
